Brian Gardner and wpElements go Open Source
October 2, 2008
When it comes to WordPress blogs, no one does it better in my opinion than Brian Gardner. He was essentially the first guy to really promote “Premium” WP themes that folks were willing to pay for. Why would people pay? Because these themes rocked.
I am still a believer that if you build a quality product, people should pay, but I understand his desire to get in with the open source nature of WordPress as well. After rumors started flying, the announcement finally came. Here it is.
Recently I have used a plugin from wpElements.com and got to look at his arsenal of “Premium” themes. Equally solid.
They are joining forces to create more goodness. This time opensource. Rock on guys! Well done.
Hi Eric
I know a few people who are going to be wanting stand alone hosted on their own domains wordpress blogs. These are not technical people at all, but they may want a special themes in some cases, and plugins for things such as do-follow, and such.
Might you have a good recomendation for a good place or person to go to for this once these people are ready to move forward??
Thanks,
Jim
Hey Eric,
Yeah, Brian is definitely on the cutting edge with his Revolution series. He now has them discounted @ $299 for the developers package until the end of the month. This is a steal for the “rights” to develop multiple blogs etc.
Btw, nice actually meeting you @ the conference.
Hey, Tim! It was good to meet you as well. I have a developer’s license to Brian’s stuff…well worth it. We are doing some things with those themes now that I will be throwing out here on EoS in the coming days.
@Jim B- At the end of the day, getting hosting for WP through a provider like GoDaddy or 1and1 is an excellent option. I do provide hosting to some folks, but have had to limit what I do to a small number of folks due to the support time requirements–a brother needs to sleep! (grin)
If you go with the provider, you will actually LEARN some new stuff, but you will find that it is (for the most part) not that “technical”.
Best;
Eric
